Improving Access to Essential Medicines in Africa

Local manufacturing will expand the availability of essential drugs, lower costs, and strengthen local health systems

Taking on one of the biggest healthcare challenges in the Africa to deliver results that matter

At Afro Therapeutics, we are committed to improving access to affordable, high-quality, essential drugs across Africa. By producing life-saving medications locally, we empower communities to overcome barriers caused by high costs, drug shortages, and counterfeit medicines. Our mission is to strengthen healthcare systems, enhance quality of life, and ensure no one is left behind

Current Situation:

Challenges We’re Tackling Head-On

  1. Dependence on Imported Medicines:
Africa imports 70-90% of its medications, leading to high costs and delayed access to essential treatments. We are working to localize production and reduce this dependency.
  2. Counterfeit Drugs in the Market:
The influx of fake or substandard medicines puts millions at risk. By building secure, local supply chains, we aim to safeguard public health.
  3. Limited Infrastructure and Resources:
Manufacturing pharmaceuticals requires advanced infrastructure and skilled talent, which are often lacking. We invest in technology and workforce development to overcome these barriers.
  4. Regulatory Hurdles:
Navigating complex and evolving regulatory landscapes can slow progress. We collaborate closely with governments and health authorities to align with standards and accelerate access.
  5. Limited Local Production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs):Africa relies on imported APIs, leading to supply chain vulnerabilities, higher production costs, and delays. We are committed to developing local capabilities to manufacture high-quality APIs, reducing reliance on imports and ensuring a stable, affordable supply of medicines.
